California has enacted some of the USA’s most aggressive climate measures in history. Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a sweeping package of legislation to cut pollution, protect Californians from big polluters and accelerate the state’s transition to clean energy. The actions by California add momentum to efforts across the country to rein in pollution from the combustion of oil, gas and coal that is overheating the planet.

The new legislation is an essential piece of the California Climate Commitment and step toward the state’s goals of becoming net zero by 2045 and delivering 90% clean energy by 2035.

Over the next two decades, the California Climate Commitment aims to:

  • Create 4 million new jobs
  • Cut air pollution by 60%
  • Reduce state oil consumption by 91%
  • Reduce fossil fuel use in buildings and transportation by 92%
  • Cut refinery pollution by 94%
  • Save California $23 billion by avoiding the damages of pollution

Governor Newsom announced,

This month has been a wake-up call for all of us that later is too late to act on climate change. California isn’t waiting any more. Together with the Legislature, California is taking the most aggressive action on climate our nation has ever seen. We’re cleaning the air we breathe, holding the big polluters accountable, and ushering in a new era for clean energy. That’s climate action done the California Way.”

The climate package establishes a clear, legally binding and achievable goal for California to achieve statewide carbon neutrality as soon as possible, and no later than 2045, with an 85% emissions reduction target as part of that goal. $8 billion of the $54 billion funding will go toward the decarbonization of the electric grid and $6 billion will go towards electric vehicles.

Utilities across California are under immense pressure to make robust plans to meet their targets. They must help customers to reduce their energy consumption and to decarbonize their homes. Here’s how Advizzo can help.

How we can help

We can help you understand your customers better

For energy suppliers, understanding your customers is key to designing effective electrification programs and services. You can save time, resources and money by identifying and segmenting those customers that would be receptive to converting to electrical technologies. By narrowing down your audience and targeting them with messages that address their motivations for and lower barriers to purchasing each technology, you’re far more likely to improve conversion rates. Discover the profile and characteristics of the type of customer that you should be targeting to improve your electrification conversion efforts

We can use your customer data to segment the appropriate target audience within your customer base. Then, using Behavioral Science based techniques, we will then engage with them and nudge them with messages aligned to their motivations and barriers. Find out why nudging and empowering your customers is critical to energy transition

We can educate your customers

Encouraging residential consumers to make even small changes to their energy consumption will make a big difference to carbon emissions. It’s estimated that if every American household traded in just one incandescent light bulb for an efficient CFL, the reduction in pollution would be the equivalent to taking 1.3 million cars off the road!1

Our behavioral science based solutions leverage the powerful theory and psychology of nudging. Using data, we surface opportunities to help individual customers and households to take relevant actions to reduce their footprint – whether that’s changing their behavior to reduce their consumption or making their homes more energy efficient. Find out how a nudge can help your customers save energy.

We’re already working with utilities in California to help them on their decarbonization journey. We’re partnered with Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) on its new Home Energy Reports (HERS) program, which is focused on decarbonization and Time of the Day awareness. We provide SMUD’s customers with personalized decarbonization tips to encourage them to change their behavior and reduce their consumption, especially during peak periods.

We are also working with Truckee Donner Public Utility District (TDPUD) in California to improve customer engagement and help customers reduce their consumption and decarbonize their homes. Our data science and behavioral science-based customer engagement platform solutions will empower TDPUD customers to make sustainable adjustments to their water and power consumption patterns through personalized data insights and advice. Find out more about how we’re helping TDPUD with their decarbonization program.

How will you encourage your customers on their electrification journey? Talk to us today to learn more about our behavioral science-based customer engagement programs. We’d love to hear from you.
